The limited liability company Fratelli Locci Srl was established on March 18, 1974 by the brothers Antonello and Italo Locci as a natural evolution of the previous company Locci Trasporti, of which the founders were already owners. The significant step forward took place with the evolution of the main activity; not restricted anymore to the carriage of mining materials, the core business of the new Company becomes the acquisition of direct orders for the extraction and transport of minerals, baryte especially and bentonite later on. Quarrying operations become this way predominant compared to the mere transportation. In the early eighties, backed by the strong experience acquired in quarries and opencast mines, the Company joins the operations of excavation and earth moving, seeing an increase in the number and quality of her orders. Keeping pace with the expansion of vehicle fleet and equipment, professional background and specific expertise have grown as well. In the mid-eighties, Fratelli Locci Srl positions herself as a leader in sub-contracts (earthworks, mining, road works) participating to important public works such as land reclamations, roads and railways, and gaining the trust of many mainland Italy enterprises that operated across the Sardinian territory. In the second half of the eighties, the company gives a further turn to her operational range by acquiring mining leases and concessions for various minerals such as calcium carbonate, silica sands, clays, iron oxide etc. This important change enabled the Company to become a producer of raw materials for the housing industry (sand and calcium carbonate) and of iron oxide for concrete plants, including the two in Sardinia and a number in the rest of Italy, and making alongside supplies of clays, kaolin and other minerals in various industrial fields. Pivotal production centre of aggregates is the "Barbusi” quarry in Carbonia, with a daily capacity equalling 2,500 tons. Especially important in the history of the Company are the reclamation of Portovesme industrial pole, handling material in excess of 1,500,000 m3; the Sassari-Alghero railroad; raising the banks of Eurallumina Red Mud basin; the SS 125 road works "Tronco San Priamo-Capo Boi"; the connection to the Mulargia reservoir in Cagliari; the Strada Perimetrale (Perimeter Road) of "Genna Luas" landfill site, in Iglesias; the external bypass of Cagliari urban area, alternative to road SS 554; the construction of the new road SS 125 “Orientale Sarda”, section “Terra Mala-Capo Boi”, currently under construction; the remediation of the landfill in Portoscuso, locality “Sa Piramide”, on behalf of Syndial SpA (currently under development); the construction of the new Red Mud waste basin for Eurallumina SpA (currently in progress): the reclamation of the surrounding area of Syndial SpA plant in Macchiareddu, on behalf of Astaldi SpA (currently running). From 2005 on, the company has expanded her boundaries with capital investments in Morocco, where she keeps a 200-hectare quarry for the extraction of aggregates and runs the associated crushing plant, with a capacity of 250 tons/hour of finished good, and a second crushing plant with a capacity of 150 m3/hour. A new expansion project involves the use of a nearby area to install a factory for the construction of precast concrete manufactures. Over time, the staff of Fratelli Locci Srl has been reinforced thanks to technicians of proven experience in the acquisition and management of job orders in Africa and Arab countries, world areas where the Company has already participated to major Contracting agreements with other international partners.
